New Parent FAQs

When is registration time?

You can register at any time. If you are interested, our Cubmaster or Committee Chair are more than willing to have a quick call to go over Pack 1 and answer any questions you might have.

August is the official start of scouting year.

We have pack meetings from Sep-May (Graduation in June), we have a full summer schedule filled with cub scout camps, beach bonfires, movie night and usually a den outdoor activity.

Note: Registration is currently open and will fill up quickly. We are one of the largest packs in Orange County and have to create new dens each year. We are accepting new scouts currently (Grades K through 5th) as den spots come available. Please inquire to get your scout registered for 2023/24 year.

Where do you meet?

Pack 1 has been around for 42 years with about 65+ active scouts. The program is open to boys in Kindergarten through 5th grade and you can start at any time. We plan a full year program that focuses on the core Cub Scout program during the school year and family fun in the summer.

Pack meetings (all scouts and their families together) are held from September to May on the 3rd Monday night of each month @ FCC from 6-7pm, please confirm dates on our calendar as we accommodate for holiday schedules. Pack meetings are family events where we have fun, recognize achievements and let you know what is coming up. Each den (grade-specific group of boys) meets 1-3x per month depending on grade level. Each den decides when and where they meet. The den meeting is where they learn.

Who are the leaders?

Pack 1 has maintained its decades of being an active pack and has re-energized a movement of strong leaders to foster growth. All our leaders have boys currently involved in the pack, have been Live Scan (background) checked, certified with BSA – Boy Scouts of America, completed Youth Protection Training and have committed to Pack 1 standards of excellence.

Parents are the lifeblood of any Cub Scout Pack. We depend on our parents to step up and help on numerous levels. Without their help, our program would be limited and our Scouts would be missing out on the fun. Reach out to the Cubmaster or Committee Chair to get involved!

How do I volunteer or get involved as a parent?

If you are interested in volunteering, or becoming a Trained Leader in Boy Scouts.  ALL the required training can be taken online – so you can take the courses at your own pace.
Steps Toward Leadership
Talk to the Cubmaster or Committee Chair about your interest. Discuss which role(s) you might focus your effort.
  1. Request an Adult Leader Application
  2. Go to our Application and taking the courses that apply to that area of focus. You can take any of the courses you wish at anytime, but make sure you take the required ones.
  3. Submit your Application with a printed copy of your “Youth Protection Training” certificate.
  4. Talk with the Webmaster about your new role. They might have some additional training and communication tools for you to learn.
  5. When you get your official BSA number you should plug it into your myscouting.org account. (This helps at the end of the year when it comes time to re-charter our Pack.)
The more parents the better the program and the more rewarding it is for everyone.

What schools do the scouts attend?

Pack 1 has a rich history of being the go-to-pack for Downtown HB and South Huntington, but in recent years we have attracted scouts from various surrounding schools.

South Huntington Beach: Huntington Christian School, St. Simon and Jude, Moffett Elementary, Smith Elementary, Eader Elementary, Hawes Elementary, Eader Elementary, Petterson Elementary, Pegasus, Kinetic Academy / Perry Elementary.

Central HB: Seacliff Elementary, Hope View Elementary, Goldenview Elementary.

Fountain Valley: Oka Elementary and Newland Elementary.

We have scouts from neighboring Costa Mesa, Stanton, Westminster and even a family who is coming in from West Covina (We all make it work!)

What we are finding is that our scouts build deep ties and trust within their den. These relationships far surpass the acquaintances at school and sports teams. This is a great way to expand your childs circle and meet new kids with the same moral compass.

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth.

Do Your Best!

September, 2023

Welcome to Huntington Beach’s Pack 1 and Cub Scouting.

For the last 43 years, Pack 1 has been an active Cub Scout Pack that is Faith based and Dad led. We strive for Dads to step up and lead their sons and pray that God leads us as we lead our boys. We are chartered by First Christian Church (FCC) Huntington Beach and affiliated with Huntington Christian School (HCS). We strive to teach the traditional views of Cub Scouting in a family friendly and fun environment. Our goal is to use the Cub Scout program to not only prepare our boys for Boy Scouts but ultimately to make a lifetime of moral and ethical decisions.

We encourage you to visit Pack 1 to see if we are right for you. There are many packs in the area and all teach the same basic program. Each pack will look and feel unique as they are a reflection of the leadership and families that make up the pack. We encourage you to visit a few and find the one that fits your family.

Pack 1 has grown significantly and is one of the larger packs in Orange County with about 65+ active scouts. The program is open to boys in Kindergarten through 5th grade and you can start at any time.

Our scouts come from various schools (South Huntington Beach: Huntington Christian School, St. Simon and Jude, Moffett, Smith, Eader, Hawes, Eader, Petterson. Pack 1 encourages parents to be active. That is how your family will get the most out of Cub Scouts. As part of the pack committee, moms and dads lend their time and energy to help the pack plan and execute events, leaving the den leaders to lead the boys. We plan special events throughout the year (including the summer) such as Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, sports events, overnight tours and more. Beginning in 2nd grade, the boys start to camp and usually camp 1 to 3 times per year. Summer events occur twice each month and are totally optional. Examples are Rocket launching, Family Camping, Beach Bike Ride/BBQ and Movie night.

Pack 1 budgets and plans to make Cub Scouting as inexpensive as possible. Annual basic pack dues are ~$238; when signing up you will pay a prorated rate for the first partial year. We are proud to wear the cub scout uniform but only require the waist up: belt, shirt, neckerchief, slide, hat and patches. That usually cost ~$85. Additional earned awards, patches & pins along with our camps and other extra activities cost additional but are not required.

We invite you to check us out. The best way to do this is to contact me, and plan on visiting a den and our next pack meeting. We look forward to getting to know you and your family.

Yours in Scouting,
